Making sure your dentures are comfortable and fit well

Dr. Martin provides premium dentures, expertly made and placed. He does this by taking extra care during every step of the process. Before beginning, he’ll ask you to bring a picture of yourself that you like with teeth so he can recreate your natural appearance.

Expert evaluation and measurement ensures a great fit

90% of all problems that patients have with dentures are related to their bite, so the next thing he will do is make any necessary adjustments to your jaw movement. Then he’ll measure your facial dimensions and symmetry, and record your jaw movement for bite registration. He might adjust your jaws to avoid the appearance of a shrunken face.

When Dr. Martin takes impressions of your mouth, he takes not only your gums and existing teeth, but he also takes impressions of the muscles that will fit around the dentures. Then when he is placing your new teeth, he has a lab technician on site to immediately make any adjustments that are required.

Denture patient testimonials

Richmond Smile Center Dentures

“Dr. Martin is the best dentist I’ve ever been to for major dental care.

“He is very personable and just a regular person. He is genuinely concerned with the case and the end results of his work. He makes sure you, the patient, are satisfied and comfortable with results.

“Dr. Martin got rid of my painful partial with implants which required extensive painstaking expertise because of my personal condition – thinning bone structure and lack of gum tissue.

“Dr. Martin took the time to explain everything he was doing. He also educated me about follow up and dental hygiene treatments. I’ve kept my promises and he has kept his.

“He also replaced my ill fitting upper denture with a very comfortable one.  I couldn’t be happier.

“Being able to eat without pain is wonderful.  Dr. Martin is the best!”

- Essie Penny

“I had several teeth extracted previously because of gum disease and sought emergency dentures.  I was told I had degenerate bone loss but the dentists did not tell me how to solve the problem.  I sought emergency dentures because I worked in the school system and I’m constantly talking and interacting with students. However, I was not pleased with the emergency dentures and how they did not improve the way my mouth looked.

“My husband is a dentist and examined my mouth and suggested that I see Dr. Martin for an appointment. He showed me an article about dental implants that Dr. Martin placed in the newspaper. I also saw Dr. Martin on a local T.V. program explaining how dental implants are utilized. Well, I made the appointment.

“I arrived to a friendly atmosphere and a very professional staff.  I was impressed with the promptness and professionalism I observed. Dr. Martin and the staff made me feel very comfortable.

“They explained every procedure step by step so that I would know what needed to be done. During the surgery, I was very comfortable and felt no pain at all. I had four more teeth extracted in the process and Dr. Martin made sure I didn’t feel pain during and after the surgery. In fact, I didn’t need much of the medication he prescribed.  I took all of the antibiotics, that was all. No pain or discomfort what so ever.  He gave me temporary dentures while my gums were healing and they looked and fit better than the old ones.  No discomfort, no adjustments.

“Later, I was measured and fitted for my new dentures.  I believe Dr. Martin shaved off at least ten years and he saved my life for cosmetic sake. I was looking at a caved in face if I didn’t seek help. I am so glad my husband referred me to Dr. Martin. I am so happy with the results! He gave me a smile I can be
proud of. Thank you Dr. Martin and Staff!  I will tell everyone about Dr. Martin.”

Bridges, Dentures or Implants?

For some patients, removable dentures or fixed bridges are not the perfect solution to missing teeth and often bring with them a number of other problems.

Removable dentures may lead to bone loss in the area where the tooth or teeth are missing, and fixed bridges often require the cutting down of adjacent healthy teeth. Recurrent decay and periodontal (gum) disease are also factors. For these reasons, fixed bridges and removable dentures usually need to be replaced every seven to 15 years, compared to an up to 25-year life span for dental implants.

Dr. Martin also has extensive advanced training in dental implants and implant supported dentures, both of which are more stable than traditional dentures, and which help deter bone loss and other oral problems.

Come in for a complimentary restorative consultation and let Dr. Martin examine your mouth and determine if a denture, bridge or dental implant is the right option for you.

Types of Dentures

If dentures are the right treatment option for you, Dr. Martin offers a variety of types, including:

Complete or Full

complete denturesComplete dentures are full replacements for all of your teeth. This can be a full set of either upper or lower teeth, or a combined set for your entire mouth.

Partials

Partial dentures are designed to correct the gaps in your smile when only some of your teeth are missing.

partial denturesMetal attachments anchor the dentures to your natural teeth.

Partial dentures maintain tooth alignment by preventing your remaining teeth from shifting.

Partial dentures can also help you prevent further tooth loss due to decay or gum disease.

Overdentures

Richmond overdentures

Overdentures can be full or partial dentures, and are secured to the roots of your own teeth.

This type of denture provides greater stabilization during chewing.

Implant-supported dentures

Dr. Martin recommends the use of implants or implant-supported dentures.

Dental Office Dentist providing Dentures

Over time, people can develop problems with dentures. They can become loose, painful or tend to slip or move around.

Dr. Martin can prevent these problems by creating a custom set of dentures for you that will stay put. They are attached to and supported by dental implants. These might be full or mini-implants, depending on your mouth and needs.

Implant-supported dentures also offer the advantage of eliminating the need for messy denture adhesives.
