Dental implants can make Richmond VA area patient’s smile beautiful again

Dental implants from Dr. Charles Martin, Richmond Smile Center
Many patients in the Richmond VA area are missing teeth due to injury or tooth decay. Dr. Charles Martin has the solution to replace those teeth with dental implants, giving you back the beautiful smile you once loved. Dental implants are a permanent solution to missing teeth that are made to look real. If they are taken care of properly they will last a lifetime. There are three parts to dental implants.
  • First there is a screw made of titanium embedded in the jawbone. This part acts as the root.

  • Next there is a connector, called an abutment, which attaches the final piece, the crown, to the new “root.”

  • Finally, there is the crown. The crown is the portion of the dental implant that is visible and mimics the natural tooth.

Dental implants can’t be removed, separating them from other tooth replacement options such as dentures. The screw, made of titanium, fuses with the bone, making them extremely stable and gives dental implants many advantages over other tooth replacement options.
  • Appearance – Dental implants look like your own teeth. The crown is designed to match color and shape of existing teeth.

  • Speech – Over time, dentures can become loose. This can cause a slur in words. You will not experience this with dental implants.

  • Eating – Dental implants function like natural teeth. Unlike with dentures that can slip, making chewing certain foods problematic, implants will never move while eating.

  • Oral health – When a tooth is lost there is a loss of bone mass. Because dental implants are secured into the jawbone they are the only tooth replacement option that will prevent this.
