Booking a Consultation with a Cosmetic Dentist

A consultation with a cosmetic dentist may well be the best thing that ever happened to your smile. Many cosmetic dentists don't charge for initial consultations, but you'll still get a thorough analysis of the cosmetic procedures you need to make your smile more appealing.

The procedures available to cosmetic dentists these days are nothing short of amazing. For dingy teeth there are chairside whitening treatments that restore the bright, white smile you want.  Broken, cracked or chipped teeth can be bonded to make them every bit as strong and natural-appearing as they were before their injuries.

Missing teeth can be replaced with dental implants or bridges.  Teeth that are too far gone to simply be filled can be given a natural looking crown. Porcelain veneers can mask tooth imperfections with no drilling, and little if any anesthesia.

With all the great dental procedures available today, don't you think you owe it to yourself to schedule a consultation with a cosmetic dentist today?

Diastema? A Cosmetic Dentist Can Help!

Having Diastema—a gap or space between two teeth—isn’t the problem it used to be. In the past, people with diastema just had to put up with the damage it did to their appearance. Today, the rapid advances in cosmetic dentistry procedures mean that diastema can be corrected more quickly with less pain and at lower expense to the patient than ever before.

Mild cased of diastema may be corrected by bonding tooth colored resin to the sides and front of the teeth to narrow the space between them. More severe cases may require orthodontic treatment with braces designed to move the too-widely spaced teeth closer together. In some cases, a removable appliance with plastic crowns is used.

Porcelain veneers are an excellent choice for many patients with diastema and provide a sort of “instant orthodontics.” Finally, conventional crowns with a bridge system can also be used. Your cosmetic dentist will evaluate the degree of diastema you have, provide more information and advise as to which   procedures would be most effective for you.

Today’s Cosmetic Dentists can Work Magic

Modern cosmetic dentistry is so vastly different from the cosmetic dentistry of 20, 10 or even 5 years ago that valid comparisons are tough to make! Today’s cosmetic dentists can work what seems like oral magic to create smile miracles!

In fact, modern cosmetic dentistry can easily be likened to a non-surgical facelift that removes signs of age and wrinkles even as it makes teeth healthier and smiles brighter. Cosmetic dentistry can make smiles wider, lips fuller and take away the sunken, pinched look that so often accompanies aging. It can soften the naso-labial fold (the line that runs from the end of the nose to the corner of the lips) and eliminate droopiness at the corners of the mouth. Lips then become much fuller and the face appears to be lifted with a higher cheekbone effect. Building out the molars on each side of the upper front teeth creates a wider, more youthful smile.

Bonding, gum contouring, chairside teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, tooth implants and cosmetic dentures have wrought miracles for millions of people nationwide. If your smile could use some improvement, don’t delay. Great cosmetic dentistry services are available everywhere at reasonable prices today, and many dental offices offer easy payment plans.

An Overcrowded Mouth – When There are Too Many Teeth

When there are too many teeth in a mouth, some of them need to become smaller or just go away altogether. While the incidence of people actually growing too many teeth is low, sometimes that does occur. The unfortunate thing is that extra teeth must usually grow out most if not all of the way in order for a dental surgeon to remove them.

Too many teeth make good dental hygiene very difficult because you can't brush all surfaces of every tooth or floss between all your teeth. The incidence of cavities and gum problems is much higher when there are too many teeth than it is when there are too few.

However, sometimes it may appear that a person has too many teeth in his or her mouth when the fact is that the number of teeth present is normal and correct but that some of those teeth are crooked enough to make it appear extra teeth are present. When that happens, the answer is probably braces, but in mild cases reducing the overlapping tooth area may be possible.

Choose a Cosmetic Dentist You Can Talk To

Visiting the dentist causes many people to feel anxious and upset.  For some folks, the mere thought of going to the dentist distresses them so much they try to put off their routine dental exams.  When you experience open communication with your dentist, it relieves these feelings and makes you feel better about visiting the dental office and taking care of your teeth.

With so many dentists to choose from, why not select a dentist that you feel comfortable talking to?  Your dentist should be available and accessible to meet your needs and answer your questions.  Often knowledge is power and when your dentist explains what is going on, you feel much better about it and are ready to deal with the next steps.

When your dentist is uncommunicative, it can make you feel even more uncomfortable about having dental work done and you may keep putting it off until more serious problems develop.  A dentist who takes the time to discuss your teeth with you will make you feel more comfortable about returning to have necessary dental procedures performed.

The dental industry is constantly growing, changing and implementing new techniques. Having a dentist explains these developments to you allows you to make educated decisions about your treatment.  If your dentist fails to go over new options, you remain in the dark about what is available to help you.

Choosing a dentist who talks to you openly will encourage you to return to the dental office for routine checkups because you will feel more comfortable.  The result is increased oral hygiene and more attractive teeth!

Pros and Cons of a Root Canal – Knowing the Facts

When your tooth become infected or if there is damage to the pulp, your dentist may recommend a root canal.  Often infection in your tooth comes from an untreated cavity, but it can also be a result of trauma.  Your tooth frequently becomes painful and your gums inflamed.

There are pros and cons to having a root canal procedure performed when you have an infection.  The advantage of having a root canal is that there is little pain during the procedure, which eliminates the ongoing pain caused by the infection.  A root canal is not a cosmetic procedure but done for your overall healthy to eliminate an infection.  If the infection is not treated, it will worsen.  Root canal procedures are effective over 92 percent of the time and the greatest pro is that your tooth will not need to be extracted in the future.

A disadvantage to having a root canal done occur when infected tissue is pushed to the ends of the root and your gum gets infected. This occurs infrequently due to the irregular shape of the canals in your teeth and may require you have a second root canal procedure performed to clear up the infection.

After a root canal, a crown and post will be placed to strengthen the tooth, which will be weakened from the root canal.  The crown and post are done at an additional cost.

A root canal is an necessary dental procedure if you are experiencing pain because you need to eliminate the infection inside your tooth.
