Zoom Whitening is Not Suitable for Children

Although Zoom tooth whitening is an extremely effective, safe way to improve your smile, the procedure is not recommended for children under 13 years of age.

Zoom is a bleaching process that has been popularly used on ABC's Extreme Makeover to lighten discolored teeth.  The entire process takes about an hour and adults will enjoy teeth that are five to ten shades whiter after just one or two treatments.  The active ingredient in the Zoom whitening gel is hydrogen peroxide which forces oxygen to enter tooth enamel and dentin to bleach your teeth without changing the tooth's structure.

There are potential minor risks involved with bleaching your teeth, such as increased tooth sensitivity and possible chemical burning of soft tissues in your mouth.  Because of these factors, Zoom tooth whitening is not recommended for children under 13 years of age or for pregnant or lactating women.  If you are allergic to peroxide, Zoom should not be used.

The best way for young people to improve the appearance of their teeth is to brush at least twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and a fluoride toothpaste recommended by the American Dental Association, as well as floss in between teeth daily.  With a bit of extra care and attention, young people can keep their teeth looking great for a lifetime.
